THE INITIAL INPUT GIVEN BY BEDINI TO THE STUDENTS WAS TO DEVELOP A NEW WAY OF “PREPARING” FOOD WITH NO PACKAGING OR DISHES, WHILE SAFEGUARDING THE FRESHNESS OF THE FOOD, ITS LOOK, SMELL AND THE POSSIBILITY OF PERSONALISING THE MEALS.
THE FULLY AUTOMATED KITCHEN TAKES THE INGREDIENTS FROM THE FRIDGE, PUTS THEM TOGETHER AND PLACES THEM ON A “DELIVERY TRAY” WHICH LEAVES THE KITCHEN AND LANDS IN THE CENTRE OF THE TABLE. THE KITCHEN ALSO FEATURES A TRANSPARENT SURFACE ALLOWING THE TOURIST TO SEE THE VARIOUS FOOD ITEMS KEPT IN THE FRIDGE. IN ADDITION TO A PRACTICAL USE, THIS FEATURE ADDS AESTHETIC APPEAL BECAUSE IT CREATES A MULTICOLOUR TEXTURE.
THE “DINING” AREA HAS AN “INTELLIGENT” SURFACE FITTED WITH MICRO-PISTON SENSORS WHICH CAN ADAPT ITS SHAPE TO WHATEVER POSITION THE SPACE TOURIST ADOPTS, FROM RELAXING TO DINING. THE SILICONE SURFACE IS BACK-LIT BY AN RGB LED SYSTEM WHICH ANIMATES THE ENTIRE ROOM WITH DIFFERENT COLOURS AND SEEMINGLY TRANSFORMS THE TOURIST INTO A MARINE CREATURE WITH ITS “TENTACLES” HOLDING THE BODY TO ITS SURFACE.
